Puff Pastry Caprese

A delightful and easy-to-make Puff Pastry Caprese combines flaky puff pastry with fresh mozzarella, ripe tomatoes, and fragrant basil for a perfect Italian-inspired appetizer or snack.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced
  • 2 medium ripe tomatoes, sliced
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp balsamic glaze
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a floured surface to smooth any creases.
  3. Cut the pastry into 4 equal squares and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Layer each square with slices of mozzarella, tomato, and basil leaves.
  5. Drizzle olive oil over the toppings and season with salt and pepper.
  6. Brush the edges of the puff pastry with beaten egg to help them turn golden.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven and drizzle with balsamic glaze before serving warm.

Notes

For an extra burst of flavor, add a sprinkle of crushed red pepper flakes or finely chopped garlic before baking.
