Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together melted butter and brown sugar until smooth.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then stir in vanilla extract and molasses.
  4. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Fold in chocolate chips if using.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  9. Allow brownies to cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.

Notes

For extra festive flair, dust brownies with powdered sugar or drizzle with a simple vanilla glaze before serving.
